Animated Groups Fable Hub

Animated Groups Fable Hub

Every piece of work on Animated Groups Fable, the public site of animated (space-time) symmetry you build with your father, Vladimir Bulatov, and his collaborators Chaim Goodman-Strauss and Scott Vorthmann: its films, catalogues and reports, and the pages around them. Part of the Chaim · Scott · Vladimir Hub (private: about people; tailnet). r33₁3₂ has nine symmetries: each 3 is a centre the picture turns about by 120°, and the subscript is what the turn costs in thirds of a period; r3₂*3 adds nine mirrors. gNNN is the site's number for a group: g227 is r33₁3₂, g234 is r3₂*3. Say "refresh the Animated Groups Fable hub" to update it.

What's been done, by week

Newest week first; inside a week, newest first. Times are Pacific: for site work, the last commit of that piece; otherwise when it was made, sent or held. yaroslavvb.github.io links are the public site. Spacesheep pages say (public, on your profile), (anyone with the link) or (private: why). Tailnet links work on your devices.

Week 45 · 2–8 Nov 2026

  • Mon 2 Nov, 03:3x · Page Magic theorem showcase (anyone with the link; tailnet): the 17 wallpaper groups as spinning orbifolds; hover, tab to or tap one to unroll it into its flat pattern, with every rotation, mirror and glide and its generators marked.
    More

Your ask, Sun 1 Nov: "create a new page called "magic theorem showcase" where I get a table of 17 two-d symmetries", with the 3D surfaces of 17 groups using magic theorem and the figure style of the generators page. Every centre, mirror, glide and fundamental domain comes from an exact model of each group, generated from the hover's own generators; checks: geometry 529 of 529, figures 621 of 621, browser 112 of 112. Each card links its group's correspondence page on the site.

Week 44 · 26 Oct – 1 Nov 2026

  • Sun 1 Nov, 22:40 · Hub This hub (anyone with the link; tailnet): all work on the site in one place: the Log back to its first commit, what's open, the films to fix, the site map and the sessions behind it.
    More

Your ask: "create an "Animated Groups Fable Hub" which tracks work on [the site]". Its spacesheep address was reserved at 20:41.

  • Sun 1 Nov, 20:16 · Review Some animations carry the wrong group: the detector reads the published 333 film as r3₂*3, and 63 of 116 reaction–diffusion films as a larger group than their label.
    More

Found by the live session (to reopen it, see Sessions), started at 19:46 as "Symmetric animation, simplified" (its brief, tailnet only: a working brief), with its detector, symdetect. This hub's audit checked it by a separate brute force over all 116 Brusselator and Ginzburg–Landau films: every labelled symmetry holds exactly, and each of the 63 has more. A true r33₁3₂ example is the gyroid [111] slice, a closed form in that session's scouts, not on the site. On the site, the Gray–Scott wave 093822675be6367b, the 31st card in showcase #p3, is exactly r33₁3₂. Nothing on the site has changed yet; Status has the plan.

  • Sun 1 Nov, 18:39 · Page 17 groups using magic theorem (public, on your profile; tailnet): Conway's price chart for the 17 wallpaper groups, each row beside its 3D orbifold and linking its correspondence page.
    More

At 21:24 a hover was added: each row lists the generators its group needs, one per line, with its crystallographic symbol (gyroscope 64f38b6). Another session answered the same ask at 18:07 with The 17 Wallpaper Orbifolds (not linked: its header links a private page whose address names the event). You haven't picked one.

  • Sun 1 Nov, 18:06 · Tool Publish a GitHub repo to Cloudflare (anyone with the link; tailnet): one prompt your father pastes into Claude Code to republish his colour-group catalogue, which the correspondence pages link into.
  • Sun 1 Nov, 10:42 · Page ∗632: build the three mirrors from two generators (anyone with the link; tailnet): click the site's sixth-turn α and mirror R until the other two mirrors appear.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 22:40 · Notation Argon Compact Clockwork Notation and ∗632 p6m in 2 Generators (both anyone with the link): the site's 68 forward groups with minimal decoupled generators, and its p6m entry on two.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 20:53 · Review Answered requests, the afternoon (private: your notes; tailnet): two questions, about two pages on the site and about files in its sibling repo. Both wait on your word.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 18:12 · Hub A private hub for a talk you are preparing (private; not linked: its address names the event): the site's pages as the talk's material, with r33₁3₂ from the p3 page at its centre.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 17:35 · Page Draw one frame, the group draws the rest (private: about your parents; tailnet): animating by hand; it names the site's Designer as the nearest existing app.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 17:28 · Page Describing a wallpaper group by its generators (anyone with the link; tailnet): your generators question, group by group, citing seven site pages.
  • Sat 31 Oct, 12:23 · Page Vladimir Projects: where they stand (private: about people; tailnet): the site's state on one screen: no commit since Wed 7 Oct (week 41).
  • Fri 30 Oct, 10:5x · Page Butterflies in the Circle Limit (anyone with the link; tailnet): from the site's Escher index, 15 of 36 classified drawings have exactly one Circle Limit.
    More

At 05:12, Escher with your father (private: about people; tailnet) also linked the index.

  • Wed 28 Oct, 20:39 · Page Time symmetries from local rules (anyone with the link; tailnet): 17 of the 51 moving groups grown by a local rule from a random start. Its detector, symdetect, later found the mislabelled films.
  • Wed 28 Oct, 19:26 · Page Repelling clocks make 333 (anyone with the link; tailnet): r33₁3₂ made readable, each oscillator a clock with a hand. The hands make it chiral, so its r33₁3₂ stands.
  • Wed 28 Oct, 18:07 · Hub Chaim · Scott · Vladimir Hub (private: about people; tailnet): the project hub; its Pages tab catalogues the site.
  • Tue 27 Oct, 10:00 · Meeting The weekly call (private: about people; recap on the tailnet): the Analogs page and the Brusselator film, then taken to be r33₁3₂.
  • Mon 26 Oct, 14:16 · Page Symmetric Animation Analogs (anyone with the link; tailnet): eight toys where a local rule meets a global symmetry, among them an oscillator lattice with r33₁3₂'s nine time costs.
    More

Its bare 120° phase state also has mirrors, so it is r3₂*3 and "exactly r33₁3₂" overclaims (Fixes). It also found that the magic-theorem report's 0.032815 is the mesh eigenvalue, not the continuum's 0.032899.

Week 43 · 19–25 Oct 2026

  • Sat 24 Oct, 15:24 · Data Your father's colour-group catalogue gets a GAP id map: his first commit since Mon 14 Sep (week 38); the live copy the site links still serves his snapshot of Tue 1 Sep (week 36).

  • Tue 20 Oct, 10:11 · Post The tutorial posted in the South Park Commons (SPC) Slack.
  • Tue 20 Oct, 10:00 · Meeting The call did not happen (private: about people; brief on the tailnet).

Week 42 · 12–18 Oct 2026

  • Wed 14 Oct, 11:00 · Data Claude Code sessions across seven machines (tailnet only: about your machines): the site's 36 sessions weigh 1.46 GB; its making-of session is the largest log of all.
  • Wed 14 Oct, 05:50 · Fix The tutorial's spacesheep copy restored (public, on your profile): a morning pass had replaced it with a raw export; the commentable version of Wed 7 Oct went back up.
  • Tue 13 Oct, 10:00 · Meeting The call did not happen (private: about people; brief on the tailnet): its brief held a drafted reply-all handing over the tutorial.

Week 41 · 5–11 Oct 2026

Where it stands

🛑 Some animations carry the wrong group

The published 333 film, the Brusselator spiral lattice the tutorial is built on, is labelled r33₁3₂ but is r3₂*3: its nine symmetries plus nine mirrors, so every frame is mirror-symmetric. 63 of the 116 Brusselator and Ginzburg–Landau films show a larger group than their label (2 times as many symmetries for 38, 4 times for 17, 8 times for 7, 72 times for 1), and a 64th, a plane wave, matches its label in name only. Nothing on the site has changed yet.

  1. Showcase #p3: the 30th card, "Oscillatory spiral lattice", is r3₂*3, and so are the three other g227 films there (92242e9a, b0c5ee80, 7a20a89f). Show the exact Gray–Scott wave 093822675be6367b (the 31st card) as the r33₁3₂ example and say "Brusselator", not "Gray–Scott", on the 30th; drop the other three, twins of films already filed under r3₂*3.
  2. Four report pages call it r33₁3₂: the tutorial, the magic theorem, the making-of, the reports index.
  3. Two Cloudflare viewers call it p3 (source: the repo's standalone/); the tutorial's "monochrome twin" link is dead.
  4. 60 more films and their correspondence clips: relabel, re-file or drop (Fixes).
  • Since Sun 1 Nov 2026 (week 44), 20:16 PST, when the live session (to reopen it, see Sessions) found it; this hub's audit checked it at 21:16 and 22:05.
  • Who is on it: nobody, on the site. The live session is writing a tutorial on your father's SymSim method and its extension to a 3D crystal, and looking for the simplest such animation; its brief keeps it out of ~/git/animated-groups-fable.
  • Next (yours): decide whether the tutorial keeps its film, re-captioned r3₂*3, or is redone on an exact r33₁3₂ film; an agent then makes the edits.
  • The edits: in ~/git/animated-groups-fable, #p3, the reports index and the equations README.md (scott-gray/research/equations/); the tutorial, the magic theorem and the making-of where they are built, outside the repo (Fixes); then push, run npx wrangler deploy for both Workers, and re-mirror the tutorial's spacesheep copy.
  • Then: run the same check over the 604 Gray–Scott orbits, on the mini or a lab box: the atlas measures more symmetry than labelled for 525, at least 371 for certain.

# What it asks Opened
#17 Bring back G/H/K notation, for your father. Probably done by 78e6f74 that day, but the correspondence pages head those names "Chaim/Conway G/H/K notation" (docs/js/correspondence.js line 860), against #15's Symmetries of Things: rename it, ask him, then close it. Tue 1 Sep 2026 (week 36), 10:47
#14 Notation doesn't match: two screenshots of Patterns, c3-p3-1. Untouched. Tue 25 Aug 2026 (week 35), 11:31
#13 A motif easier to read, "like an animal". One entry in docs/js/motif.js. Tue 25 Aug, 11:28
#9 Compare three classification systems. Partly answered by Crystals and Patterns; no comment since it was opened. Thu 13 Aug 2026 (week 33), 17:14

All four are yours. No pull request is open.

The site today

As of Sun 1 Nov 2026 (week 44), 22:40 PST.

  • Last site commit: 1a39f5a, Wed 7 Oct 2026 (week 41), 14:54 PDT, the tutorial: 25 days ago. 193 commits since Mon 10 Aug 2026 (week 33), 3 of them your father's.
  • Pages deploy: GitHub Pages builds main:/docs with no build step; the last build passed in 2 min 20 s, and none has failed since Wed 16 Sep 2026 (week 38). All 110 pages answered 200 tonight. docs/ is 1.61 GB against GitHub's documented 1 GB limit, and builds still pass. No CI: the checks are run by hand.
  • 🛑 Edit only in ~/git/animated-groups-fable on the Intel, which matches GitHub. ~/git0/animated-groups-fable is a stale Dropbox copy at cfb7ff8 (Mon 7 Sep 2026, week 37), 42 commits behind; a commit from it would undo weeks of work. Its catalogue JSON is byte-identical to the current one, so symdetect, which reads it by default, is unaffected; pass data_dir anyway.
  • Viewers: the eight Cloudflare Pages copies and the two Workers serve the repo's bytes. Your father's catalogue still serves his snapshot of Tue 1 Sep. On spacesheep the tutorial's copy is current; the whole-site copy is 17 commits behind, showcase 20 and the reports copy 2.
  • Next call: Tue 3 Nov 2026 (week 45), 10:00 PST, your father and Scott; Chaim likely Tue 10 Nov.

Animations to fix

Nothing on the site has been changed yet. From the audit of Sun 1 Nov 2026 (week 44), 21:16 PST, with its check's corrections of 22:05 (cards counted from 1). Each film is drawn as an example of its label L, and every operation of L holds on it exactly; but the film has more, a group D containing L, and a viewer sees D. Each orbit was solved inside L's fixed points and certified on L's operations only. The site's own monochrome atlas had measured the extra symmetry already. All 116 films came in with aba5297 on Mon 7 Sep 2026 (week 37), 12:30 PDT, the last commit to touch the atlas data, wallpaper-atlas.json (the Log's "One reaction–diffusion app for all 17 pages"; its session is the Sun 6 – Mon 7 Sep row in Sessions). A card's chip is its "+N alike" button, which opens the look-alike films folded behind it. The evidence, with every script that produced a number here: the audit and its adversarial check (tailnet only: working notes).

Where the three reports are built. The tutorial, the magic theorem and the making-of are built outside the repo, in ~/drive.unsynced/artifacts/agf-report/site/<report>/ (tailnet only: build files): the tutorial's build.py (line 151 is the dead WORKER_MONO), the magic theorem's build.py, and the making-of's tools/build_page.py with fragments/part2.html (lines 73 and 922 carry its "p3 … r33₁3₂" and "R3 (No. 146)"). An edit made only in docs/reports/ is lost at the next build. Rebuild there, then copy into docs/reports/<report>/ only what that folder's PUBLISH.md lists (the tutorial's): a plain cp -r also publishes build files that break the privacy rules. After the push, re-mirror the tutorial's public spacesheep copy with _publish/build_mirror.py.

Every other film to relabel or drop

Each also sits in its family's reaction–diffusion explorer under its label: same fix. B = Brusselator, GL = Ginzburg–Landau; "twin" = the same orbit as a film already filed under the detected group, so drop it; ×N = the index.

  • "Gray–Scott" on every equation card: all 116 equation rows in showcase/data/showcase.json (59 served on load, the rest behind chips and "Show more"), their hover text, and the 25 correspondence field clips on equation films name the wrong model.
  • Black-and-white cards from these films show, in 23 of the 27 served (252 of all 272 in showcase.json), neither the group the atlas measured for the picture nor the one it kept: re-file them from the atlas. Six black-and-white correspondence clips come from these films too. Four show neither group: cmm #g71 (5db28681, measured c4₁*2), p4g #g139 (27768adf, measured c2₁*22ᵇ), p3 #g225 (bc8f182d, kept as 3₁3₁3₁) and p4g #g137 (0f0e1407, measured *2222, kept *~2~2~2~2). cmm #g72 (27768adf) is right, and pgg #g75 (be5e945b) has no group recorded.
  • Three-colour cards drawn from these films are right except bc8f182d96b3 and 5dde6757eb74, shown as 3₁3₁3₁ but measured 3₂3₂3₂. The cause is not these two films: 17 of the 21 three-colour cards filed under 3₁3₁3₁ measure 3₂3₂3₂, and so do all three three-colour clips on correspondence-p3 #g226 (171743e84bbd, bc8f182d96b3, 64ed69f33459). Settle which group a three-colour card should show before re-filing these.
  • Spacesheep copies carry the same labels. The tutorial's copy (public, on your profile) holds 1a39f5a: re-mirror it after the site fix. The whole site (at c9ab8aa), the Showcase front door and an earlier Showcase (at 0a8ef9e), all public on your profile, were copied after these films went in on Mon 7 Sep 2026 (week 37), so they show the same cards: refresh or retire them (Status). The private copies of the site and the reports carry the old label too.

53 of the 116 match their label and none is unidentified. Of the 40 labels these films carry, 15 have no exact film anywhere on the site: 2₁2₁2₁2₁, c222₁2₁, *×, ~*×½, *~2~2~2~2, 22×½, 2₁2₁*, 2₁2₁×, c2₁*22ᵃ, c2₁*22ᵇ, c*22₁22₁, c22₁×¼, *4₂~4₂2, 4*~2 and 3₁3₁3₁. Dropping their films without a replacement leaves those groups with no example. Of all 68 forward labels, up to 38 have none.

Is "larger" right? The supergroup check

  • Yes, for all 63. Every labelled operation holds on all 116 films at residual 0.0, and each of the 63 has more: new point maps only for 30, new translations only for 11, both for 22. The worst accepted residual is 1.6e-8 of the pattern's RMS; the nearest non-symmetry sits at 2.2e-2.
  • 52 of the 53 "exact" films have exactly their label's operations; the 53rd is the *× plane wave, with 288.
  • Checked three ways: the audit's FFT search, an independent brute force, and symdetect re-run on the 333 film (g234 r3₂*3, residual 0.0, no warnings). Each film's group size equals the monochrome atlas's own measurement, 116 of 116.
  • Caveats: the two g9 films and the plane wave have clock 4 against the catalogue's 1 for *×, so their names are provisional; g246 → g271 is flagged too, but its mirror costs match; the two g7 Ginzburg–Landau films and the four g75 films are g137 on a cell turned 45°; symdetect's default data path is the stale ~/git0 copy, so pass data_dir.

Kept apart: the oscillator lattice is not the Brusselator film. The repelling clocks' bare 120° phase state is r3₂*3, because the reflection (m, n) → (−n, −m) keeps every sublattice. Drawn as dials with hands, or as the chiral pinwheels of Time symmetries from local rules (anyone with the link), the film is exactly r33₁3₂, and those claims stand.

About this hub

  • What it is for: one place for the site: what changed (Log), what's open (Status), what's wrong on it now (Fixes), what's on it (Pages), the sessions that built it, and the pages around it.
  • How it is kept ("refresh the Animated Groups Fable hub"): a Log entry at the top of this week and Status brought current, then render, check and deploy, all in one commit.
    More

What's new since the top Log entry: git -C ~/git/animated-groups-fable fetch, then git -C ~/git/animated-groups-fable log origin/main --since=<its date>; gh issue list -R yaroslavvb/animated-groups-fable --state all; gh pr list -R yaroslavvb/animated-groups-fable --state all; gh api repos/yaroslavvb/animated-groups-fable/pages/builds/latest; gyroscope pages that name the site, find reports meeting-prep -name '*.md' -newer reports/animated-groups-fable-hub.md | xargs grep -l animated-groups-fable; and the top of the Chaim · Scott · Vladimir Hub's Log. A page added here carries a Part of the Animated Groups Fable Hub link to this hub's spacesheep address in its own header. This hub is anyone with the link, so a page about people stays private and its link says why.

Render and check: ~/git0/flush-util/md2report reports/animated-groups-fable-hub.md --eyebrow "Animated Groups Fable Hub" exits 0 with no ⚠️; grep -c '<section class="tabpanel' reports/animated-groups-fable-hub.html prints 7; ~/git0/flush-util/hub_log_by_week reports/animated-groups-fable-hub.md --check prints ok:; every tailnet link answers 200 (request-hub.md step 3 has the commands).

Spacesheep: ~/git0/flush-util/sheep_copy reports/animated-groups-fable-hub.md --out ~/drive.unsynced/artifacts/animated-groups-fable-hub --eyebrow "Animated Groups Fable Hub", then stage_begin, PUT that folder's animated-groups-fable-hub.html to the upload URL with ?path=index.html, and deploy with the space's uuid and base_sha from dashboards/spacesheep-ledger.jsonl, so the address stays animated-groups-fable-hub. Re-read it with get_space (public and unlisted: anyone with the link) and append the ledger line. Commit the .md and .html with explicit paths, and push.

First deploy only: add this hub's row to the Gyroscope Hub under Start here and Projects with a Log entry there, and a Log entry at the top of the Chaim · Scott · Vladimir Hub's week, in the same commit.

  • 🛑 Edit the site only in ~/git/animated-groups-fable on the Intel. It deploys by pushing main: GitHub Pages serves /docs.
  • Sources: the site's git history; the GitHub API (issues, pull requests, Pages builds); a crawl of the 110 live pages; the symmetry audit of Sun 1 Nov 2026 (week 44) and its independent check; the agent session logs on the Intel and the M5 and the Codex threads; the Chaim · Scott · Vladimir Hub and the gyroscope pages; the spacesheep ledger; the site's agent memory notes.

Total life satisfaction: this site is work you share with your father, and it counts only while it moves; there has been no commit since Wed 7 Oct (week 41), so this hub keeps the next fix one step away.
